Preferred Member Education Day – a great success

On May 4 and 5, our Preferred Member Education Day brought together learning, connection and inspiration through a memorable welcome reception, dinner, breakfast and lunch that made the experience both valuable and enjoyable. But more importantly, it brought together our members!

Attendees heard timely, relevant presentations from industry experts and had the chance to connect with peers and Florida public entity leaders who understand their challenges and opportunities. From meaningful conversations to practical takeaways, the day delivered the kind of insight and energy that attendees can carry back to their organizations. Preferred supports members with heat illness training

With Florida temperatures rising, our Preferred member, City of Plantation, reached out for support with heat illness training, and Preferred answered the call.

Preferred's Safety Risk Management Consultants, Lauren Quinto and Sarah Dodd, provided a session focused on recognizing warning signs, prevention strategies and the importance of staying safe while working outdoors.

In high heat and humidity, helping employees stay safe starts with understanding the basics: hydration, rest breaks and early intervention. Keeping these measures top of mind can go a long way in preventing serious medical emergencies on the job.

If your organization is interested in heat illness training for your employees, contact your Preferred Loss Control Consultant to learn more.

Preferred TIPS Program: Supporting employee safety

Keeping your people, property and community safe starts with investing in strong safety and risk management efforts, and Preferred is proud to support members every step of the way. Through the Preferred TIPS matching grant program, members may receive up to $5,000 per coverage year when they spend up to $10,000 on qualifying safety and risk management initiatives.

These Preferred members are putting their TIPS funding to work in meaningful ways. Manatee County Mosquito Control District, the City of Avon Park and DeSoto County all used their Preferred TIPS funding to strengthen employee safety through protective equipment and safety-related investments. Manatee County Mosquito Control District purchased PPE, safety gear and employee safety inspections to help protect staff working outdoors around chemicals, traffic, equipment and other environmental hazards. The City of Avon Park purchased PPE for firefighters, helping protect them from heat, smoke, hazardous materials and other risks during emergency response. And DeSoto County used its Preferred TIPS grant to purchase safety gear for employees, including boots, ear plugs, safety vests, gloves, hats and shirts to support safer day-to-day operations across departments.

Together, these investments show how TIPS funding helps members reduce workplace hazards, better protect employees and reinforce a strong culture of safety
