The Preferred TIPS Program – supporting your safety and risk management initiatives
Safety and training initiatives play a vital role in safeguarding your most valuable assets—your employees and your property. And Preferred is right there with you! The Preferred TIPS matching grant program reimburses members up to $5,000 per coverage year when you spend up to $10,000 on these valuable initiatives.
Manatee County MCD was recently awarded a Preferred TIPS check to support their purchase of OSHA verified staircases.

Angela Wellman shared how the District has used the Preferred TIPS grants over the years. “We love the TIPS program,” she said. “I started the program for the District in June 2016, and since then, we have received $47,376.98 from the TIPS program. We appreciate the value Preferred places on safety!”
When we asked Angela what item she’s purchased was her favorite, she had this to say, “As far as the favorite safety item we have purchased with our TIPS award, that is a tough one. We normally submit the same routine items (gloves, masks, Tyvek suits, Hazmat licenses, flight physicals, safety boots, etc.). We also have submitted some rather unusual items. I believe one of the best purchases was a second AED defibrillator we needed for our flight hanger. Although it was only $1,299, it was so valuable as our flight hangers are far away from our admin building where we kept our only AED machine. Being able to purchase a second unit for flight was very important to me and I believe very necessary, so that is my favorite purchase.”
The team at Manatee County MCD also took the time to give Preferred Loss Control a tour of their facility and explained how a Mosquito Control District works and the services that they provide for their community. Cedar Hammock Fire Control District recently received a Preferred TIPS check to support their purchase of bunker gear for their firefighters.
The cool fun fact about Cedar Hammock Fire District is that they’ve been part of the Preferred TIPs Program since it launched in 2016. Their very first purchase was ballistic gear for their firefighters!
