When Jackie Miller, vice president and underwriting operations manager for OnPoint Underwriting, learned that a long-time friend was once again diagnosed with cancer after a 20-year hiatus, she began organizing friends and special events to help both her friend Steve who would be out of work for a very long time, and his wife who took time off to be his caregiver.

In September, she created a Facebook event page for a poker tournament and party fundraiser. Using Facebook, she kept well over 100 people informed on both the fundraiser and updates on his recovery.

Many people donated lavish gift baskets for a raffle, decorations and even dinner was catered and donated for the cause. Both the poker tournament and raffles raised over $4,000. Many people attended who'd never met Steve, yet came to show their support.

Coworker Lorie Howard, account executive for OnPoint, also attended the fundraiser and contributed a round of golf for the raffle.

Well done, Jackie!
